Implementation, Application, and Monitoring in the St. Wendel District
Manager: Institut für ZukunftsEnergie- und Stoffstromsysteme an der Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (htw saar)
Work Package: 6:
In work package 6 „Implementation and mainstreaming“, the approaches and technical solutions developed within the project will be implemented in the model region “District of St. Wendel”.
Activity 6.1: Implementation, application and monitoring in the District of St. Wendel
In Activity 6.1, about 30 monitoring stations will be installed in various types of buildings with sensitive uses in cooperation with the stakeholders and user groups. The staff of these facilities will be informed about the use of the monitoring stations and of the warning app; they will be trained accordingly
Sensitive facilities are understood to be social infrastructure facilities or health/educational facilities for people and groups that are considered vulnerable to climate change impacts.
Activity 6.2: Development of measures for heat protection in the District of St. Wendel
As part of this activity, adaptation measures for summer heat protection will be developed for various vulnerable groups and sensitive institutions. These measures include: a) short-term measures that focus in particular on human behaviour as an immediate response to heat; b) medium-term (structural and green/ecosystem-based) measures that can be implemented by the facilities to improve the indoor and microclimate; and c) long-term and transformative measures that aim at the systemic integration of adaptation measures to heat as a cross-cutting issue in the planning of health sector facilities.
Activity 6.3: Integration into political and administrative action at local, regional, national level and in the wider region
The work on stakeholder management includes analysing existing structures and responsibilities as well as organising events to form an ‘Adapt Network’ in the District of St. Wendel. This network brings together relevant stakeholders from different levels of action (municipalities, district, federal state, Greater Region) and social sectors (administration, politics, private sector, civil society, facilities).
At networking events, possibilities for integrating the developed approaches, adaptation measures and technical solutions into political and administrative action (e. g. in building guidelines, norms, standards, building regulations etc.) are discussed. In addition, recommendations for the development of informal planning instruments, e. g. heat action plans, will be formulated and their transferability to other study areas in the Greater Region will be examined.
